Namaste,

In gItA chapter 15, we have reference to three puruSha-s:

kShara puruSha : relates to awake and dream state
akShara puruSha : relates to sleep state
uttama puruSha : relates to state beyond these three

Here is my understanding:
We may further divide the state of uttama puruSha into:
turiya : jnAna dominated
turiAtita  jnAna and bhakti dominated

With regards,
Shrinivas Gadkari

Recently while studying the Naradaparivrajaka Upanishad, I noticed the multiple
references to the term ‘Turiyatita'. I have also encountered this term more frequently
appearing in Tantra texts. Seeing this term appear in the non-mukhya Upanishads
that have an explicit Advaita siddhanta begs the question of its position in the Advaita
Vedanta tradition, especially when the Mandukya Upanishad has clearly alluded that
there cannot be anything ‘beyond’ Turiya.

Inviting other members in this list to contribute to my learning. Thank you and pranam-s.

Warmest Regards,
Kathirasan K
