Some Preceptors will keep the VRAJA HOMAM ( i will post this topic separetly) pending although sanayasa deeksha was given.
Nothing is possible for a sanyasi after the completion of viraja Homa and the only way left for a sanyasi is to meet his guru/preceptor or to fullfill his guru's wish after the liberation. 
I have learnt that many stalwarts of sanyasa asrama were kept the viraja homa pending to take the full test of their respective disciples.

Thanks again for additional information.  If due to some unavoidable circumstances,  this vrata not followed any prAyaschitta advised??  And while on the subject what would be the praayaschitta for the Ashrama patita-s as we heard gurutalpa gamana is mahApAtaka and sanyasi cannot go back to gruhasthAshrama.  In the dashanAmi paddhati any prAyaschitta prescribed for the ArUdha patita-s??
