Dear Bhaskar ji,

Good that you raised that question. We have many passages, as you already
know, in the Bhashya, one is this in the Arambhanadhikarana: 2.1.14:

Here Shankara says Ishwara is one who has the upadhi of nama rupa created
by avidya. And again, there itself, he says Ishwara's sarvajnatva and
sarvashaktitva are due to avidyaatmaka upadhi... So, for Shankara the
kaarya prapancha is due to avidya, which he says in another place, and all
that is associated with this kaarya prapancha has to be necessarily be
'tinged' by avidya, even sarvajnatva, etc. Here is the other passage:

BSB 3.1.1. One would
sincerely believe that the Shruti says Brahman created the world and
therefore it should be brahma-kaaryam. But here Shankara says the karya
prapancha is avidya kruta. Even if it is maya kruta that is not different
for Shankara as he has said here, BGB 14.10:

Now, what should maya do for the jiva's body-production? It is
trigunatmika maya and this is a product of maya. We all know that it is
due to avidya the dehaadi is kalpita, yet the maya element is also there.

subbu
