No. Ask him to talk to the priest who gave him upanayanam to find out
details of his pravara, sutra, sakha etc. Or reach out to one of the
sankara or other traditional mutts to get it solved correctly. In the mean
time, ask him to chant Vishnu Sahasranamam or just Rama namam.
