Advaita Vedanta is actually the outlier in proposing a complete separation
of jnana and karma. Even in Maharshi Badarayanas' time there were
thinkers who proposed some variety of jnanakarmasamucchaya.
Sureshvaracharyas' sambandhavarttika is a good guide to these.
Vishishtadvaita is merely a more recent example of this tendency.
My understanding is they consider all 20 chapters of the mimamsa shastra
(12 adhyayas of Jaimini, 4 adhyayas of brahmasutras plus the 4 adhyayas of
Sankarshana or devata kanda) as a unitary shastra with Shri Mahavishnu as
its ultimate tatparya.
Some Advaita acharyas have come close to such beliefs (e.g. Shri Appaya
Dikshita and Shri Bhaskararaya come to mind) but overall he consider Ourva
Mimamsa and Uttara Mimamsa (i.e. Vedanta) to be two separate
(albeit closely related) shastras with separate concerns.
