[Advaita-l] The three types of afflictions - explained briefly

In Vedanta we hear the three types of afflictions a jiva is faced with -
Adhyatmika, Adhibhautika and Adhidaivika.  Here is a brief definition of
these by Sri Anandagiri in the gloss to the Bhagavadgita Bhashya 2.56:

ज्वरशिरोरोगादिकृतानि दुःखानि आध्यात्मिकानि । आदिशब्देन आधिभौतिकानि
व्याघ्रसर्पादिप्रयुक्तानि, आधिदैविकानि च अतिवातवर्षादिनिमित्तानि दुःखानि
गृह्यन्ते ।

Misery caused by fever, headache, etc. is AdhyAtmika

Misery caused by tiger, snake, etc. is Adhibhautika

Misery caused by hurricane, torrent, etc. is Adhidaivika.

The three are collectively known as Taapatraya.
