Sorry I jumped the gun and didn't stop to consider that there might be a difference between Gujarati and South Indian patamparas.  We do varshika Shraddha during Pitr Paksha (Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha) with the exact tithi being the same as the tithi on the day of death.  Do you do it on the death anniversary?
