 *The Vedas: A Poem *
The Vedas teach us about Life,
And they teach us How to live
They tell us it's alright to take,
Provided we know how to give

They entice us to act,
And in the same breath to renounce action
They glorify Ishvara with virtues,
And term Ishvara free of transaction

They teach us to grow in possession,
Without becoming possessed
They suggest growing in devotion,
And with objects not be obsessed

They orient us in the ocean of Samsara,
But caution us not to get wet
They say Jnana is ultimate,
But without Dharmic action you won't be set

They say Ishvara is your father,
But also the goddess mother
They encourage seva toward jivas,
But tell us there is no 'other'

They speak highly of Punya,
But compare it to shackles of gold
They praise the comforts of svarga,
But say it gets boring and old

They light up all objects,
And reveal the subject to be that light To the fool the Vedas contradict, But
to the wise, they are just right
