Namaste,

My old post to say that 'advaita' is in shruti mantras.

In तैत्तिरीयनारायण वल्ली (महानारायण उपनिष्द्) comes a set of अघमर्षण मन्त्राः which
collectively called as अघमषॅणसूक्तं. This is chanted at various places in श्रौत & स्मार्त
karmas especially at the time of taking bath. The सूक्तं takes off with
"हिरण्यश्रृङगं वरुणं प्रपद्ये तीर्थं मे देहि याचितः". Amidst this सूक्तं comes the following ऋक् that
explicitly gives out the अद्वैत भावः.

The commentary is so baffling that I felt what more can be said about the presence of
“advaita” in Vedas. I am presenting the Sayana’s commentary for the mentioned rik.

Sayana's Commentary:

That supreme light which projected Itself as the Universe like a soaked seed which sprouts –
I am that Supreme Light. I am that Supreme Light of the Brahman which shines as the innermost
essence of all that exists. In reality, I am the same Infinite Brahman even when I am
experiencing myself as a finite self (Jiva) owing to ignorance. Now, with the dawn of Knowledge,
I am really that Brahman which is my Eternal Nature. Therefore, I realize this Identity of
Jiva & Brahman by offering myself ie., the Jivatva (the finite self) as an oblation into the
Fire of Infinite Brahman which I am always. May this oblation be well reached for
achieving Jiva-brahma Identity.
………

Regs,
Sriram
