Dear Dr.Yadu ji,

This mantra is a part of the shānti pāṭha that is recited that has come
down in the tradition. There is enough reason to guess that Shankara
himself wanted it to be there:

अस्य च जपो विद्योपत्त्यर्थोऽधिगम्यते। ‘ऋतं च’ इति धर्मोपन्यासादनन्तरं च
वेदानुवचनपाठादेतदवगम्यते । एवं श्रौतस्मार्तेषु नित्येषु कर्मसु युक्तस्य
निष्कामस्य परं ब्रह्म विविदिषोरार्षाणि दर्शनानि
प्रादुर्भवन्त्यात्मादिविषयाणीति ॥

In the commentary to that mantra in that Upanishad, Shankara says: the
chanting, japa, of this mantra is for the genesis of Self-knowledge.
