Tripuranthaka story. This post details the sculptures in Brhideeshwara
temple (Tanjore) which depicts the story
Raja Raja chola who constructed the Brihadeeshwara temple at Tanjore, went to SriLanka and is said to met the Buddha Bhikshus at SriLanka.(Vide "Ponniyin Selvan"byKalki. It is with reference to that the sculptures have been carved at the temple. The book which is a well researched book on the link between SriLanka and India cites many interesting anecdotes on the life of these Buddha Bhikshus. He is said to have helped them to build the "Choodamani"vihara where the "Hinayana"cult flourished.
