So, in short, if ramaNa's method of self inquiry is devoid of  shAstra vihita shravaNAdi 
sAdhana, we have to say it is an independent method and as a result

The path of self-enquiry is verily a traditional method.  The dakshimurty stotra says:
 
bAlyAdiSvapi jAgradAdiSu tathA sarvAsva vasthAsvapi. vyAvrittAsvanu varthamAnam ahaM iti antaH sphurantaM sadA....
 
Bhagavan is insisting us to look into the source of this *antaH sphuraNa* only.
