namaste...
dear sri rangarathnam,
your question is very thought provoking and quite original.
i would like to add some thoughts of mine to
your query and sri sadananda's response to it.
i think it is impossible to have fresh bursts of
avidya against a prevailing continuum of
time. this tells us that the origin is cast off into
a beginningless past. this 'original cause' stands
aloof, mysterious, and beyond grasp. it is
'practically' 'ever-non-existent'.
however, if your question is about discontinuity of time itself,
then it is unanswerable because each
stretch of time is beginningless and endless from a
perspective within it.
pranam.

Dear All,
Adhyasa/avidya is variously characterized as natural, beginning less etc.
Does it imply that avidya is acausal?
Is the role of avidya/adhyasa limited to creating a separate jiva? or does
it continue to plague jiva in fresh bursts, instead of letting the jiva run
like a clockwork, once it is created?
S.Rangarathnam
