However, just as you contend that using the word kingpin to describe
anubhava does not take away from the importance of Sruti, I hold that my
emphasizing the high importance of Sruti does not take away from that of
anubhava. I give great importance to bhagavatpAda's usage of the
conjunction "ca" when he talks of Sruti etc and anubhava etc. I have
nowhere and at no time argued for one against the other, nor have I ever
used words that seem to privilege one over the other.
sAshtAnga praNAms Sri Vidya prabhuji
Hare Krishna
prabhuji, I think your concluding remarks clear all doubts with regard to
the role of shruti and anubhava in brahma jignAsa. While on the subject, I
also request your goodself to share your understanding on *Adi* after
anubhava in the bhAshya vAkya...I also have a doubt here whether in
shuty-Adi, in *Adi* whether vEdAnta sUtra can be included or not..coz. you
said only smruti, itihAsa, purANa, dharma shAstra etc.!!!
And coming back to methodology of avasthAtraya, I dont think Sri SSS
putting special emphasization on this prakriya *outside* the scope of
shruti & as far as my knowledge goes, nowhere he said *avasthA traya
prakriya* is an *independent* prakriya & can be substituted for shruti
siddhAnta!! He is more particular about divergence of opinion regarding
the purpose which this examination is intended to serve in the vedAntic
system. In all through his works which are mainly deal with this three
states methodology, Sri SSS, draws abundant references from bhAshyakAra &
tries to establish the fact that shankara's advaitic method is not all
about post-mortem salvation it is the system that can fetch us ultimate
salvation here & now....
So, in my humble opinion, there is no question of an *outsider* status to
avasthA prakriya & at the same time there is no doubt in mind that
bhagavadpAda has given paramount importance to this prakriya which is
closely enmeshed in shruti siddhAnta. For example, mAndUkya upanishad,
which is exclusively designed to define this prakriya, catches the most
important announcement from bhagavadpAda "
vEdAntarThasArasaNgrahabhUtamidaM prakaraNachatushtayaM" (these four
chapters are the summery of the *essence* of all vEdAntic teaching)..and in
kArikA bhAshya too, bhagavadpAda observes that avasthAtraya parIksha is the
*peculiar method* that can be adduced to this pholosophy of advaita.
Hope this clarifies the stand of Sri SSS on avasthAtraya prakriya.
Your humble servant
Hari Hari Hari Bol!!!
