[Advaita-l] devo bhutva devam yajeta

There is a similar phrase....

Shivo bhutva shivam yajeta...

Word by word it would mean....
become shiva to pray to shiva

This seems to be the generic version of that

which means

become the devata (who ever that is) before you pray to that devata.
