The hymn actually compares Vishnu to a lion dwelling in the mountains, 
"mR^igo na bhImaH kucharo
giriShThAH". The R^ishi is dIrghatamas, Vishnu the deity, and triShTup the 
meter.

Some interpret this verse as a reference to the narasimha avatar.
