Importance of Nose Ring

Namaste,

I wanted to know the importance or significance of having Nose pierced and
wearing a ring or stud for a Married woman. I know that this is being
practised for ages. I do not know the purpose behind it. Could any of the
learned members of the list throw some light on this?
